Greetings fellow Marines,

One of the greatest pleasures a Brigade OIC can bestow on the Marines of his or her brigade is the presentation of the annual Valor Awards. These awards go to those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty, not just for their unit, but for the brigade, the Corps and STARFLEET as a whole.

It is with great honor, with today being the start of IC 2003, that I announce the 4th Brigade Valor Award recipients.

Would the following Marines please stand and be recognized.

Cross of Valor (Brigade Marine of the Year)
BGEN Bruce Sommer

For exeplempary services to his MSG and for services above and beyond to the 4th Brigade. BGEN Sommer sets the standard for the Marines in the 4th Brigade. His conduct, motivation and esprit de corps make the 4th Brigade what it is, a smoothly running brigade.

Sword of Valor (Brigade Leader of the Year)
BDR Truman Temple

For exeplempary leadership for his unit, of which he is the OIC. BDR Truman Temple has proven his value to the brigade, and his MSG. His actions and deeds set a standard to which the Marines in the 4th strive.

Shield of Valor (Brigade Volunteer of the Year)
COL Peggy Slayer

For her tireless effort to help the members of our military through her hard work with the Overseas Coupon Project. Her untiring volunteer efforts have made her a valuable assest to her ship and the 14th MSG. She has made a personal impact on her community.

Star of Valor (Brigade NCO of the Year)
SGM Paul Anthony

For going way beyond just being our Brigade Sergeant Major, Paul took the initiative, after seeing that other brigades had patches, he felt that his brigade deserved the same. He placed an order and then made them available to members of the brigade. Paul is an exceptional NCO and is a vital part of this brigade.

Legion of Valor (Brigade Unit of the Year)
1st Marine Strike Group (Border Bandits)

The 1st MSG is the most active and most decorated unit in the 4th Brigade. This unit exemplifies the activity level, image, attitude and standard of the Brigade.

- March 23rd, 2003

Greetings,

I have a few announcements to make and now is as good as time as any to make them.

As you all know Colonel Chris Esquibel was at one time the OIC for the Mighty 4th, then due to a very hectic life he sadly had to step down. But I am so glad he stayed on staff as my aide, and as webmaster. But once again he got even more busy. As many of you many know he is the Datawarfare Officer of Tracom and belive me when I say Tracom will keep you busy. He is the one man who handles all those E-Certs that go out to the students. So sadly he was not able to keep up with our great website. He designed one of the best looking brigade websites I have ever seen as all of you know. But as I said he got very busy with Tracom so with that in mind I had to think of something fast.

So with that said let me announce that my Deputy Officer In Charge Brigadier Bruce Sommer is now pulling double duty. First off as my Deputy and Second as the new Webmaster for the Mighty 4th. He is not changing the site at all simply because like me he knows what a great job Chris did on the site so it will remain as you see it with only very minor changes. The only change you folks won't see, but is there none the less, is that the site is being hosted by Bruce himself.

On the main index page you will see honor paid to Chris for his work as our past webmaster.

Chris, from the bottom of my heart I want to thank you for all the hard work you have done for the 4th Brigade and the members of it. The website you created for us is amazing. Chris please extend the thanks of all of us to Reece for allowing the site to be hosted by him. I will be writing him myself but if you should talk to him before I do please thank him for all of us.

Look for a few new things added to the website as well. A few little things will be added here and there, but the overall style of it will remain just as is.

I need something from all of you members of the Mighty 4th Brigade. Its something very easy and simple to do. I know that all of you fine folks do a lot of great activities within your MSG, BN and Ships. I want to hear about all of them. I want to know what activities you folks are taking part in. Charity events, fund raisers, you name it. And if there is a link to your event please send that along as well. I know that this brigade does a lot to help those in need and I want to hear about it from all of you. It does not have to be just SFI related, it can be any event that you are trying to promote to help others.

I know that the USS CENTURION and IKA NIGHTBLOOD are very involved with our annual Feast to raise money for Santa Claus, Inc of Greater San Bernardino. But I want to hear from all of you.

So here is what all of you are being asked. Please send your event to my DOIC and myself. Send all the information you have on it including any links that give more info.

Again let me thank Chris from the bottom of my heart for his dedication to the best brigade in all of Starfleet. And let me thank Bruce for taking on the added role as the new webmaster for the 4th.

- December 30th, 2002 (Attention 4th Brigade)

Attention All Members of the Mighty 4th Brigade

Sadly as you may have noticed I have not been posting as much as I would have like to or should be and for that I am sorry, but as you all know I have had to deal with some personal problems within my family these last few months and as I have always told people
who know me FAMILY FIRST. But I have not forgotten that you the members of this fine brigade are looking to me to make this a better brigade for all of you.

One of the main reasons I have not been on as much besides from personal family matters is one that we all have had to deal with at some point that being computer problems and internet problems. Both of those should be fixed this week I hope. The computer
problem is easy to handle, but the internet is taking much longer then I would have liked so I ask for your understandin in this. I am still able to access my email so contacting me and my response has not changed I am still here just not on as much as I would like to be.

I hope to make the year 2003 a great one for the Mighty 4th and will be announcing what I would like to see within the next 2 weeks.

Until that time I thank you for your underderstanding and I hope all of you have a safe and Happy New Years please remember not to drink and drive.

- December 6th, 2002 (Brigade Announcements from 4thbde OIC)

Greetings and Salutations, Members of the 4th Brigade.

As you may recall; the positions of 2nd Battalion OIC and DOIC of the brigade were both open. I took applications to fill both slots. I wish to thank those that did apply. Now the time has come to announce those Marines who will fill these slots.

I would first like to thank Marine Captain Jason Braaten for his service as the DOIC and interim OIC. He did a great job for the 2nd Battalion.

The applicant that has been chosen for the 2nd Battalion spot is the current OIC of the largest and most decorated unit within the second battalion, the 1st MSG, based off of the USS CENTURION. His leadership of the 1st MSG for the past 4 years has shown his willingness to work within the brigade and battalion. His unit has won the Legion of Valor for the past three years running. His unit has also captured the Shield and Sword of Honor, several times
in the past few years. He has served as aide-de-camp to the former OIC, assistant web master and a senior OIC. He has worked at the local and international level. He has been a member of Starfleet since 1986 and has served this Brigade and Corps faithfully. His knowledge of the SFMC and 4th Brigade are incredible and he'll be an asset to both his Battalion and Brigade. His unit, along with the 29th and 99th, were among the first in the brigade to have URLs and web pages up.

Attention to Orders; Brigadier Truman Temple, please step forward. Effective this date, 06 December 2002, you are hereby placed in command of the 4th Brigade's Second Battalion. Good luck, Marine.

The applicant that has been chosen for the Brigade DOIC spot is the current OIC of the 29th MSG, based off of the USS TIKOPAI, Brigadier Bruce Sommer.

Brigadier Bruce Sommer has been in Starfleet since 1988. He is a graduate of a lot of the classes that Starfleet Academy has to offer, more recently, the College of Law and College of Religious Studies. He, Truman and Admiral Jack Fields have all worked together before. Bruce has previously been the OIC for the 2nd Battalion. Bruce brings a certain amount of experience and a unique perspective on the Corps, and the brigade, that will help me do my job better.

Attention to Orders; Brigadier Bruce Sommer, please step forward. Effective this date, 06 December 2002, you are hereby designated as the Deputy Officer In Charge for the 4th Brigade. Good Luck, Marine.

Please join me in welcoming these two men to their respective new positions.

Please send all congratulations to:
Bruce Sommer
Truman Temple

Would both men please get in touch with me so we can get you both going in your new duties.

Brigadier Cyndi Temple
SFMC Fourth Brigade Officer In Charge

- December 5th, 2002 (SFMC NCO Reports)

In the absence of a SGM/SFMC for the moment all NCO reports should be sent up the chain to the COForceCom. He will be compiling the NCO report for me until such time as we decide
to appoint a new SGM/SFMC.

Thank you,

Major General Wade Olson
Commandant, SFMC

- December 5th, 2002 (SFMC STATE OF TRACOM)

I know it's a few days early, but here is the current State of TRACOM for December, 2002:

Personnel changes:

Due to the promotion of MGEN Wade Hoover to head InfoCom, I have merged both the Chief of Datawarfare and the Ecerts Coordinator into one post, the new Datawarfare Chief/Ecerts Coordinator is COL Chris Esquibel, Chris will be taking over the duties on December 16 as he is currently tending to some personal matters that will be complete by that date. Chris can be reached by email.

Our new SGM/TRACOM and NCOA Director is Clayton Hobbs. Clayton will be assuming these duties as soon as he gets things set up on his end to meet these responsibilities. Clayton can be reached by email.

I want to thank everyone who applied for these posts and encourage them (and any other interested parties) to apply for the following vacancy:

Due to school and family commitments, MCAPT Jason Braaten has tendered (and I have regretfully accepted) his resignation as Support Branch Director. If you are interested in this post, you must have completed at least SU-10, 13, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24 and be willing to complete SU-30 within 60 days of appointment.

Applications will be accepted until December 20, 2002.

New Courses:

We are nearing completion of the first of the new Xeno-studies schools. The Klingon should be up and running in the very near future and we are still looking for people who are interested in developing Xeno-Studies courses for other races/threats. If you are interested, please contact me by email.

Other News:

We are currently working on a comprehensive MOS Manual for all Branches of the SFMC complete with descriptions. If you have an idea for this manual or any other ideas you would like to see come out of TRACOM, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will see what we can do to help bring that idea to fruition, assuming it can be done.

Please rememeber, we are here to serve you and meet your needs in the SFMC. Let us know what you want or need.

Colonel John Roberts
Commanding Officer, TRACOM, SFMC

- December 5th, 2002 (SFMC Financial Report)

We started the month of November with $487.22. There were no deposits made during the month. There were no checks cashed on the account. The service charge on the account
for the month totalled $2.12. This leaves a grand total at month's end of $485.10.

The Corps still owes the Commandant $345.87. The Corps is still holding funds earmarked for the Red Cross in the amount of $69.00. It is also holding funds of which the benifactor is still undetermind in the amount of $25.25. So presently the Corps has $390.85 free for expenses and $94.25 earmarked for various donations.

We started the month with $34.58 Petty Cash. The Corps had no expenses paid out of this during the month.

This makes the total amount of Corps funds $519.68.

Commandant, SFMC

A. Subscription instructions
----------------------------
To subscribe or unsubscribe to CORPS-L, visit the following website:
http://lists.sfi-sfmc.org/mailman/listinfo/corps-l/

Enter your E-mail address in the box under Subscribing to Corps-l, and enter a password, decide if you would like regular mail delivery, or digest mode (if you would like digest mode, then click the radio button next to Yes), and click Subscribe. You will then be e-mailed a confirmation code. Follow the directions in the Confirmation E-mail to finish subscribing to
the list.

PLEASE try and post under the address you are subscribed too. You can subscribe more than one email address (just ensure that your secondary addresses don't receive mail, otherwise, you'll end up with duplicate posts.)

If you have any problems, write to Wade by email.

B. Contact information
----------------------
The CORPS-L list owner is Wade Hoover, the current COINFOCOM. The list moderators are Wade Hoover, Wade Olsen and Brian Davis. Your first contact for most issues or questions regarding the list should always be Wade Hoover.

C. Purpose
----------
The CORPS-L mailing list is an official mailing list that allows members of the STARFLEET Marine to more easily exchange ideas and information about issues affecting STARFLEET and the STARFLEET Marine Corps. CORPS-L operates under the authority of the STARFLEET Marine Corps and the list owner and moderators.

Announcements of upcoming chapter or region events are absolutely welcome, as well as discussion about issues facing chapters, regions, or individual members. Messages of thanks or praise are appreciated; messages of complaint are not, though constructive criticism will often be welcomed by individuals or SFMC departments when e-mailed directly.

The authority of the list owner and moderators on CORPS-L is absolute; THE LIST IS NOT A DEMOCRACY. You are encouraged to adhere to the guidelines set forth in this FAQ and to requests made by the moderator on the list itself.

Membership to Corps-L is *NOT* a right. Failing to abide by the guidelines in this FAQ will be met with a warning, suspension, or expulsion, depending on the severity or frequency of the problem, at the list administrations discretion.

D. How to post
--------------
To post a message to CORPS-L:

Send e-mail to CORPS-L@SFI-SFMC.ORG

That's the short form.

Here are other considerations:

Try to use a meaningful subject line. Try and use a descriptive subject such as "How tall is Wade Olsen?" or "7th Brigade Muster this November." You should sign each post to CORPS-L with, at a minimum, your name and e-mail address. Try to keep signature blocks around five or six lines.

This is a closed list, so you can only post from the e-mail address at which you're subscribed. Posts from any other address will fall into my "bounce" mailbox for me to approve. If I don't recognize your name, I won't approve it and will send it back. Save me time and trouble: post a message under the address you are subscribed under!

Don't use styled text on CORPS-L. Not every member of the list uses a mail client that can see the stylized text, and your message will be garbled to them. If you don't know how to turn off styled text in your mail client, please ask us for help. We have FAQs available upon request for a variety of popular mail clients. This includes posting in HTML.

File attachments are absolutely forbidden on CORPS-L. It's fine to offer the availability of a file to those who reply privately that they'd like a copy sent individually, but files are *NOT* to be sent to the list.

E. To post or not to post
-------------------------
Think before you post to the list. You are about to share your words with hundreds of people. If you're mad when you write your message, hold onto it for a few hours before posting, and then look at it again. You may discover you need to reword it... or just delete it unsent.

Check the section on "What not to do" for additional guidelines.

F. Replies, follow-ups, quoting
------------------------------
Think before you post a follow-up message. Does the list need to see your reply, or should it go only to the one person who posted the message to which you're replying?

Follow-up messages of condolences, congratulations, thanks, get-well wishes, and the like should be sent privately.

If you decide to send a private reply, please carefully check to make sure your message is addressed only to that person's private e-mail address, not to the list.

If you're going to send a follow-up post to the list, quote the message to which you're replying, but do so sparingly.

G. When things go wrong
-----------------------
If you believe there is something wrong with the CORPS-L mailing list, DO NOT under any circumstances post a message to the list expressing your concern. If there is actually something wrong, your post may exacerbate the problem, and at best will be ineffective at solving it. Instead contact list's administrators whose direct e-mail addresses are available in the section "Contact information."

If there's nothing wrong with the mailing list, but you have a complaint about something that someone has posted, please direct your comments to the list moderators. Most of CORPS-L 's moderation activity goes on behind the scenes, via private messages among the moderators and those who've done something wrong. It's possible that the moderators have already dealt with the issue you feel is worth a complaint, but it's also possible that we haven't, so your comments, worded politely and in private, are always welcome.

Please consider unsubscribing from CORPS-L if you know in advance that your e-mail address is going to become unreachable, either permanently, or for a short period of time. If messages to you bounce repeatedly, you will be automatically unsubscribed from the list without prior notice.

H. Other sources of info
------------------------
Information the STARFLEET Marine Corps may be found here:

http://www.sfi-sfmc.org/

I. E-mail directory
-------------------
A directory of STARFLEET Marine Corps members who are online, and the various ways of communicating with them, is maintained by Mike Dugas.

http://www.sfi.org/directory/

J. What *NOT* to do
-----------------
If you have any questions, or aren't sure whether something you're about to post violates the guidelines, by all means ask.

Note that the following isn't an exhaustive list of rules, and are subject to change at any time by the list admins.

No flames or other acts that disrupt the even flow of discussion on the list.

No profanity. There are minors on the list, so act accordingly.

No forwarding private mail. This is absolute! Messages sent to you privately are not to be shared with the list and/or made public without the permission of the author. The same applies for messages from limited-access mailing lists.

No forwarding messages to the list for non-subscribers. If someone asks you to share their thoughts with the list, ask them to contact a list moderator. We'll post their message for them if we think it's appropriate.

No posting copyrighted material without permission. This includes newspaper articles. If you ask, you may find that the newspaper or writer is happy to have you share the material. Ask.

No excessive quoting. Really make an effort to trim those quotes, Marines! Quote four or five lines of the post you're replying to. If you have more than on point to answer, then of course you may quote the relevant lines for that point also. Do NOT quote the previous post in full, either at the beginning or end of your post.

No unmarked spoilers. Provide spoiler warnings in subject line, and 20 lines of space before your text, if your post contains info that could be considered a spoiler.

Limit congratulations messages to the list. These should be sent privately, with the e-mail contact for the person sent in the original post. This also holds for condolence e-mails.

No chain letters. A chain letter is a message that urges you to pass it along to others.

No test messages. If the operation of the list needs to be tested for some reason, one of the list admins will do so. If you feel there's a problem we don't know about, please let us know via private e-mail.

No advertising or sales pitches, whether to promote something that would benefit you, a friend, or an unrelated company. We make exceptions for chapter fundraisers and the like, but please ask for permission before posting such messages.

No "me too" posts. Don't bother posting a reply to the list unless you have something to add to the discussion.

Limit personal paging.

Limit signature blocks to six lines, including all information, decorations, quotations, and blank lines.

Don't post replies to the list when your message is meant for just the original poster. Send them privately.

No attached files and avoid styled text and HTML encoding.

Criticism of the way the list is being run, including suggestions on what the List Admins should or should not do. Suggestions are welcome, but are to be done in private.

K. What did we miss?
--------------------
This document isn't perfect, and as it has evolved before, it will evolve again. Please send comments or suggestions to the List Admin MGEN Wade Hoover.

- December 2nd, 2002 (SFMC Important announcement)

Marines:

As I stated in my announcement sent out by Aaron Murphy last Wednesday night, Joost had stated to me that since things had slowed down a bit he wouldn't mind retiring early from
his post as COForceCom so he could have time to prepare for his new assignment as Chief of Ops, STARFLEET. I agreed with him that this would be the best course of action.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to Joost for the outstanding job he did as COForceCom. He is going to be a very hard act to follow. But our new COForceCom comes with a lot of enthusiasm and experience and I"m sure with a little help from Joost he'll be up and running very quickly and we'll see a very smooth transition. He has worked on almost
every level of the Corps leading up to this position and has had a very distinquished work record in all his positions. He currently holds the position of Brigade OIC, 3rd STARFLEET Marine Corps Brigade.

Please welcome our new Commanding Officer, Forces Command, Lieutenant Colonel Mark West. Mr. West will be taking office officially as of 00:00 hours, 7 December, 2002. For the time being he can be reached by email.

Please send any letters of congratulations privately to him.

Welcome aboard, LTC West.

Major General Wade Olson
Commandant, STARFLEET Marine Corps

- December 2nd, 2002 (Greetings from the NEW SFMC InfoCom)

Greetings to the members of the SFMC,

First, I would like to thank Wade Olsen for this opportunity to serve the Corps in the capacity of COInfoCom. I would also like to apologize for the delay in this post, but I was out of town for Thanksgiving, and returned home late last night.

I'm sure your wondering, what is InfoCom? Well, in simplest terms, InfoCom is in charge of all Electronic Presence for the SFMC, including the Corps Website, the Corps Mailing list, and the Corps IRC channel. My office will work closely with the commands to make sure that their area on the Corps website is correct, and to fix any problems as they creep up. I am also
the main administrator for the Corps list. If you have a problem with the list, or the way the list is being run, I am the person to talk to about it.

I have an open door policy. If you have questions, ideas, or comments, please feel free to contact me. I'm reachable via E-mail at infocom@osprey.net, infocom@sfi-sfmc.org, or wade@ussnomad.org. I'm also on MSN (wade_hoover@hotmail.com) and on ICQ (14524633). Most of the time, you can expect a 24 hour turnaround time for responses from me. If you get longer than that, please E-mail me again, as occasionally my ISP screws up, and I don't get all my mail. It doesn't happen often, but it has happened.

I look forward to working with you. Like all members of the General Staff, were here to help you. Please let us know what we can do for you.

Major General Wade Hoover
CO-InfoCom

- December 2nd, 2002 (Last Night's IRC Meeting)

Greetings Memembers of the Mighty 4th

I want to thank all of you who showed up last night to the first meeting under my command. It was nice to see so many friendly faces.

We had a great time and lots of ideas were brought up. It was nice for me to hear what you folks had to say. For those of you who were not there first off I'm very sorry that you missed it, but that don't mean that you don't have a voice in this brigade. If you have a idea please send it to me as I want to hear from all members.

Remember that the issue of TDD still needs items for it so if you have something holiday related please send it to LTC Adam Bernay or to myself.

I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving and didn't stuff yourselfs to full. I myself enjoyed the time with my family and my dad. Hard on the entire family this first holiday without my mother but we got through it.

Just a lil FYI for all of you our very own John Nelson is getting married this weekend and I want to say on behalf of the entire 4th Brigade CONGRATULATIONS to you.

Thats all for today, look for a announcement later this week from me about our two open positions.
